I have used a script I have written to generate an iSync Plugin (MetaClasses.plist) for getting your nokia series 40 phone to work with iSync 2.4 and iSync 3.0
This script has been tested on a number of nokia mobiles and proven to work, other series 40 phones, if you download a plugin and find try it out please add a comment with your findings so we can keep everyone upto date.
These plugins will only work when connecting your mobile Via bluetooth!
note: Where better plugins have become available I have replaced my plugin with a link to the relevant external site (good example being the 6500 Classic).
Installation Instruction
- Right click iSync from the with applications in the finder and “show package contents”
- Navigate to: Contents\Plugins\ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice\Contents\Plugins\Nokia-6131.phoneplugin\Contents\Resources
!!! make a backup of MetaClasses.plist !!!
- replace contents of MetaClasses.plist with the relevant iSync plugin (text file downloaded from here)for your nokia mobile!
note: I have split up this page into Tabs above and moved the comments to a seperate tab. This wont speed the page up loading but it should make the whole thing easier to read.

November 16th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
The 6275i does NOT work.
The phone lacks the SyncML service, which means that it is significantly different from most other Series 40 phones, and AFAIK iSync requires SyncML to work.

Hi,
The NOKIA 6233 Script works fine, but there seems to be a bug in apple mail when handling with todo’s created on other devices or just in iCal. After the sync was finished apple mail didn’t work anymore. I found the following thread dealing with the same problem and was able to fix the problem by deleting the todo’s that had been transferred from my mobile:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5860690
Conclusion: The script is perfect! (I hope apple will soon fix the mentioned bug…but it’s not too evil

Why two entries for the 6131? I tried the second one, and it works fine. They both link to the same txt file and the same specs on the nokia site. any difference in the code?

Thankyou James,

Hello
I just got a Nokia 6500 Classic and want to sync only the contacts from the Address Book on my Mac Book Pro. Is this possible with your script ?? Also, I dont fully understand the installation instructions - I can locate the file but dont understand how to replace it with your plugin - when I click on your plugin, I just get text in Safari and dont know what to do from there
Thanks in advance for your help

Works fine with the 3110 classic. I used the 3109 metalist, placed it in the 6131 folder, and did a find/replace on “3109″ with “3110″ in the metalist file itself.
It’s jsut sync’d perfectly with my MBP, and N95.
Not surprisingly, Nokia Multimedia transfer tool doesn’t recognise it.

Hi and thanks for this, however…
I might be being completely stupid but I cannot get the 6500 script to work.
Can you give a step by step instruction for the “replace the contents of MetaClasses.plist” bit, because whatever I do, it just dosen’t seem to work.
Sorry to be such a noob, but I’m desperate here!

here is the key for the 5310. I tried and it works :
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060404013821717
I was able to adapt this to my new Nokia 5310 XpressMusic phone!
I used the updated instructions above (”Creating your own iSync Phone Plug-in for OS X 10.4.9 iSync 2.4″ http://www.macosxhints.com/comment.php?mode=view&cid=86309 ), except for the following little change:
In the MetaClasses.plist file described in the mentioned comment, add the string “XpressMusic” to the line
Nokia Nokia 5310
. After adding the string, this line becomes
Nokia Nokia 5310 XpressMusic
This seems to be needed or iSync will not recognise the 5310.
Ahh annd the best: Even Address Book images get synchronised as with S60 phones!
The only thing I’m still missing but haven’t seem on any phone (except probably the iPhone) yet is a syncing of address groups to my nokia phone.
I wonder if there is a public API that could help in implementing this.
Cheers,
Simon

HEy,
installed 6500c plugin worked after 4th retry,
(had an empty space from editing the plist first,
then forgot to quit isync so a sfety backup would appear and keep the new plist from functioning)
but did not sync phonenumbers, calendars worked fine…
I checked merge data
made a new group in adress book,
called it phone and synced it, with no result.
then, i don´t know how,
isync did not show the merge or erease checkbox anymore…
i tried to sync anyway and my numbers are gone:(
any idea about recovery options?
best greetings

Not at all this is specifically for being able to use iSync with your nokia phone, so just the syning of calendar and contacts. To be able to use the phone as a modem you would need to check the settings when pairing the phone via bluetooth. Though I have never done this.

Hi,
I have encountered a problem using iSync with the Nokia 6085 and an old iBook. The iBook is running 10.4.11, iSync 2.4 and is equipped with an SE bluetooth dongle.
I am able to pair the phone with the computer and can browse the Nokia 6085 via the Bluetooth Prefence Menu, putting on extra ringtones and so forth.
I downloaded the iSync plugin here and set up the Nokia 6085 in iSync, but all attempts in syncing fail:
The iSync log shows the following error message:
12:33:28 Error [Nokia 6085] There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.
12:33:28 Error Device “Nokia 6085″ synchronization failed
Whereas the phone diplays: Sync failed. …. Unable to process all items. ..
Any hints?
thks, aki

Nokia Classic 6500 - Manage to sync Calendar but not Contacts - All contacts deleted from my phone though. Is there a solution? Thanks!
Hans Ziegler
January 1st, 2008 at 4:38 am
Hi James,
nice work there. Basic sync works excellent.
After having worked with the phone for some time now, I’ve found a few glitches when syncing my 6500 classic with iSync under Leopard (haven’t tried other versions though).
The problems only occur when syncing back, i.e. contacts have been transmitted to the phone and, some time later, I’m syncing again. At this point, iSync reports contacts would have changed:
1. Company names seems to get deleted
2. German umlauts in Notes seem to be converted somehow (e.g. an ‘ä’ converts to a two characters: ‘Ãø’ (the latter appears to be an o over an x; ‘ü’ converts to ‘Ã1/4′ where ‘1/4′ is one character.
3. Display type seems to get deleted (has been ‘person’ or ‘company’, empty after syncing back)
4. Long notes appear to be truncated.
5. Birthdays seem to get deleted.
6. Job titles seem to get deleted.
7. Images seem to get deleted!
I think it’s fine if the phone doesn’t support certain fields but they should not be overwritting/modified/deleted when syncing back.
Thanks for any help. Drop me a note if I can be of any help figuring out what goes wrong there.
Oh, and happy new year!
Cheers,
-Hans

I have tried and tried but I cannot get the 6085 plug in to work under Leopard. I opened the existing MetaClasses.plist with DashCode, highlighted all the original text, pasted over it with yours, saved and quit. When syncing to my 6085, the sync only seems to work with a group called “AddressBook” in Mac Address Book. If I change the group’s name to “PhoneBook” or similar, the sync fails. No big - easy enough to work around - thank you very much for this plugin!
Aaron K
January 5th, 2008 at 2:24 am
Check that - it actually seems that it will only sync with a particular group once. If I rename the group, or choose a different group, it syncs normally. Switching to a different group seems to require unpairing both the phone and the computer, removing the phone from iSync, then repairing and reinstalling the phone to iSync. Any ideas as to why?

Thanks, James. Plug-in for Nokia 5310 XpressMusic works with iSync 3.0 on Leopard for both contacts and calendar. I put the plug-in into Library/PhonePlugins. No bugs detected so far. You have obviously already changed the plug-in to include the string “Nokia Nokia 5310 XpressMusic” as suggested by fifibrindacier. Thanks very much

This great with the Nokia 2630 - but everyone already knew that..
.. so thanks, James!
I own a mac, and I wad NOT going to re-enter all my saved contacts (from the Mac) into my new phone!
And the only reason I got this particular phone was the
low-cost BlueTooth iSync plugin combination.
So I guess ol’ Apple Inc and Nokia should also sit up and take note of this solution.
Great work, James.

Nokia 6102i works, but you have to change some of the code from,(family.com.nokia.series40.3rdEd.bus.bt) to, (family.com.nokia.series40.bus.bt) the reason being, is that the 6102i is a 2nd edition phone and if not changed you will in turn, get the error message “no authorization” on the phone and iSync will report that it can’t push data to the phone unless this line of code is changed. This could also be a problem for those of you who are trying to sync with other Nokia versions. Be sure to check to see what series and edition your phone is. Here is the website that I found where I was able to decipher this information. Any suggestion or need help post it and I would be more than happy to help :).

Sync with Ical and my new 2630 and it works. I love it. James, you prove that it is possible. Why does Apple and Nokia won’t support this????

Nokia 3110c users: THIS DOES WORK! I spent ages trying to get it to sync with my macbook pro without success; it would sync the calendar, but contacts would sync 44 of 56 and then the phone would reset itself. Solution: Clear the phone memory for the first isync…. Make sure you back up any Contacts to the Sim Card, Select: Use Phone Memory, and delete all contacts. Then commence with isync and it works. Please persevere because once sorted this is great, and well done James, you deserve some recognition for helping us all!

Hi,
I’m trying to sync my 6500 slide with my macbook (running leopard). I’m a total novice, and have tried and tried, but it just isn’t working! Is there any really clear step-by-step guide out there?
It’s frustrating to know it can work, but I can’t do it!
From above comments - looks like you can work magic James.
Thanks, C

Hi James,
Like a few 6500 classic owners here, I can only manage to Sync calendars. Phone numbers were not synced from the phone to Addressbook, but only from Addressbook to Sync, though the phone sync progress shows them being synced. In addition, multiple entries were created when syncing (from Addressbook to phone). Syncing calendars worked well though.

Hi,
I have used your plugin for my Nokia 6500 Classic, and it has been working perfect untill I updated my phones software. My current and new phone software is version 04.84.
The problem occurs after sending 4-5 contacts. Then iSync tells me that an error occured while syncronizing and that the phone might have disconnected the connection.
Have you heard of this problem and do you know how to fix it?
Thanks
Ulrik

I just used your fix to isync my MacBook running Leopard with my new Nokia 6500 classic.
In a world where everything is complicated, your instructions were perfectly simple, and the fix worked!
Thank you.

Looks like the Calendar Issue on the 6500 is somthing to do with your firmware version. Again appologies for not being able to test this my self, I only have a 8800 and a 6085 to test with.
If anyone can provide further info would be much appreciated, 11,000 visits to this page is quite staggering & flattering.

Thanks for setting up this resource, I was beginning to feel a bit lost. I have replaced the MetaClass.plist as directed with the plug in for the Nokia 6301 which shows up in finder simply as a web location. I’m not understanding something, I have tried opening the file which is a txt file of code but don’t know what to do with it or how the file is activated. I can find no information in isync on how to add plug ins.
Any help would be gratefully received

Thanks for Nokia 6500 classic plug-in. Synchronized 1500 contacts calendar. Worked beautifully. Two remarks: 1) the comment field in the OSX address book is truncated once transferred in the Nokia (would it be possible to lift this limitation ?) - 2) in the calendar, full day events appear in the Nokia as an event with variable times (sometimes 6am, very often 1pm).
All the best

Hi,
I try to install the plugin for my Nokia 2630. I’m working in Leopard with iSync 3.0.
I followed the install instructions as described at the beginning of this page but I’m not able to finish them. This is my problem :
The instructions say “Right click iSync from the with applications in the finder and “show package contents”. Navigate to: Contents\Plugins\ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice\Contents\Plugins\Nokia-6131.phoneplugin\Contents\Resources”
I can navigate to Contents\Plugins\ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice\Contents\Plugins\ but Nokia-6131.phoneplugin is not a directory. This file can only be opened with the application iSync Plug-in Maker which is installed on my system.
I was not able to change the content of the file MetaClasses.plist.
I’m new to MacOSX and I don’t know what I can do to install the plugin.
Can someone help me out? Probably I’m doing something wrong but I cannot figure out what.

Koenraad welcome to mac os x, im sure like me you’ll be a convert!
I think you should be able to right click the plugin and do another “show package contents”. This should let you navigate the files within.

Hi, I have fixed the 8600 Luna iSync profile, well on mine this works anyhow
The problem is that the phone is not actually called “8600″ but “8600 Luna” so I changed the following lines:
Identification
com.apple.cgmi cgmm
Nokia Nokia 8600 Luna
com.apple.gmi gmm
Nokia Nokia 8600 Luna
com.apple.usb.vendorid-modelid
0×0421/0×04f2

Hi James,
Bought 5310 Express Music, followed your installation advise, did work fine to get contacts on it but crashed seconds after. I can not revive it.
Anybody knows where to get IMET list, noticed difference in IMET number on sticker and one you call by *#06#. Apparently digits in place 7 and 8 denote country of manufacture and list names the country. For Nokia Finland should be 00, China 02 and so on.
Many thanx

Hi,
Ive tried the plugin with my 2630 and OSX 10.4.11.
It comes up visible in iSync, but it will sync a different amount of contacts every time.
I’ve even shortened my list right down to just include the 200 or so phone numbers i need in there but it seems to be getting stuck on something.
I’ve reset the phone a couple of times, rebooted the computer etc and tried again.
I’d love to find out what the problem is. It seems to work so well for a minute then hangs
Cheers
